Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of six counts of rape

After 14 days of what the media called intense deliberation, the jury at Chester Town Court, UK, could not reach verdicts on Benjamin Mendy's alleged attempted rape of a woman in November 2018 and another woman in October 2020. The jurors could not reach verdicts on six other counts by five other women.

Benjamin Mendy, accused of raping women at his home in Prestbury, UK, during a (what must have felt longer) six-month trial, Mendy was likened to a predator who saw the pursuit of women for sex as a game.

Now, if you don't believe in lawyers, buckle up.

The defense lawyer told jurors that the allegations against Mendy were riddled with inconsistencies and the most blatant flaws. The lawyers continued and argued that while the trial, involving money, sex, and a celebrity, had what seemed like a great Netflix drama, it came with the proverbial "plot twist". Benjamin Mendy was innocent.

"It's easy to make false accusations and suggest that the women involved were connected in some other way, whether through friendship, social media or by attending parties", argued Lisa Wiling, one of Mendy's representatives.

It all started in November 2020 when Benjamin Mendy first got arrested. While at the height of his Manchester City football career, the club suspended him, after the women accused him of rape. His life will never be the same again. The accusations will forever follow him.

Nonetheless, Mendy's lawyer said he was delighted, "Cleared of six attacks on four women, it has been absolute hell for Benjamin. We look forward to clearing his name at the retrial over the two other allegations and importantly so, rebuilding his life".
