Thembinkosi Lorch's case of assault has been provisionally withdrawn at the Randburg Magistrate court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Lorch's legal team submitted representations to the Senior Public Prosecutor and after considering the representations, the SSP took the decisive decision to provisionally withdraw the case.
Why was the case actually withdrawn?
According to advocate Daphne Montsho the case probably needs further investigations so that the state can gather new evidence to back itself up.
Thembinkosi was arrested in September 2020 for allegedly assaulting his then girlfriend Nokuphiwa Mathithibala in Midrand. This arrested came amid the Gender Based Violence hoo-hah around the country.
The prominent footballer, who will best be remembered as the man whose goal once knocked out Egypt in the African Cup of Nations, was charged with assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and was released on a R 2000 bail.
According to sources, the Orlando Pirates management team offered Nokuphiwa R20 000 to drop the case. We could not get hold of her to confirm these allegations.
It is further said that Lorch slapped and strangled Ms. Mathithibala after she had asked him where he had been, after been missing for more than 5 hours.
