The Downfall: What happened to Mason Greenwood

Born in 2001 in Bradford, Manchester, Mason Greenwood joined Manchester United at 7 years old. When he turned 16, he moved to the u/18 squad where they won the u/18 Premier League.
Jose Mourinho gave Mason his first professional contract and handed him his Manchester United debut. His debut came in a 3-1 win against PSG in Paris in the Uefa Champion's league. In the same year, while still in high school, Mason started seeing a girl who attended his school. Her name was Harriet Robson.
Over the following year, Greenwood would become one of England's most promising footballers. However, the drama started.
During the pandemic, Mason and Harriet broke up. It seemed as though there were no hard feelings and a mutual agreement was reached. But yet, one of their friends was quoted saying, "They have a lot of problems. It certainly isn't the best relationship".
What happened next opened a door toward Mason's downfall.
In September 2020, the England national team travelled to Iceland for a Nation's League match. Mason Greenwood, considered by many to be the next star, was bound to make his international debut. When the time came, Greenwood was subbed in late into the game. England won 1-0 thanks to a Raheem Sterling late penalty. It was a day to remember. A moment to savour. Not at all, actually.
Two nights after the game, everything was overshadowed by one massive blunder. While resting at the team hotel, Mason met Icelandic model, Nadia Gunnarsdottir on a dating app. After a day of talking, Mason decided he had to meet up with her. Since he could not leave the team hotel because of Covid 19 protocols, he had an idea. He checked her into his hotel room. They spent some time at the hotel bar and swimming pool area. By 3 am they were caught headed back to his room leaving England manager, Gareth Southgate, to take measures. He immediately sent Mason Greenwood home on top of the fine he already had to pay for breaching covid 19 protocols.
This situation led to a much bigger controversy.
Mason and Harriet rekindled their love and started seeing each other again.
His career at club level was doing better. He averaged 8 goals and 1 assist in 11 matches, which helped Manchester United qualify for the Europa League final. However, Manchester United would go on to lose the match against the Spanish side, Villareal in a penalty shootout.
The following season, with Christiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Rafael Varane joining United, fans were hopeful that Greenwood would become even better. But then 21 matches and only 3 goals, something seemed wrong. Something had to have gone wrong.
On the 30th of January, 2022, it was confirmed that something was really wrong with Mason Greenwood. That day, Harriet Robson posted several stories on Instagram displaying cuts and bruises on her arms with the caption, "To anyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood does to me". Which clearly hinted that Mason Greenwood was a domestic abuser.
On the internet, the pictures spread like wildfire. Everyone was in shock. It turns out their star-boy is more like absolute scum. Hours after this, Manchester United issued a statement confirming that they were aware of the clips and later announced that Mason Greenwood would be suspended indefinitely.
The biggest news hit the papers; The Manchester police had arrested Mason Greenwood on suspicion of assault. The following day it all got worse as the charges were taken up a notch to sexual assault and threats to kill.
On the 1st of February 2022, Manchester United double down, clarifying what suspension meant in that case. It turned out that Mason was forbidden from taking part in training, matches, advertising campaigns and the works.
The next day, Mason Greenwood is released on bail meaning he was freed on the condition he would appear in court when required.
Later that week he lost his Nike and Fifa sponsorship deals. Fans became outraged when they learned that Manchester United was still paying Mason's $100 000 weekly wages.
